The uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MKP) in Jozini, northern KwaZulu-Natal, says it is pleased with its performance in the Local Government Elections after securing more than 10 wards in the municipality.

MKP spokesperson Sipho Gumede attributes the party's success to extensive campaigning and engagement with communities ahead of the elections.

Gumede says the party's newly elected councillors will prioritise development and service delivery in the areas they represent.

He says the councillors have a responsibility to uphold the party's mandate by ensuring clean governance and addressing the needs of residents.

“The message from the MKP is that we are all carrying the mandate to deliver to the community and to produce clean governance.

“We will do that by following the documents which are in the legislature. I think the problem starts when councillors fail to follow the mandate of their organisation. Our mandate is very clear: to provide services to the community,” Gumede said.
