Texas Democrat Nathan Johnson, who has been elected as the state's next attorney general, has revealed that he previously worked as a music composer for the popular Japanese anime franchise Dragon Ball Z.

The 58-year-old says he composed musical scores for 67 episodes and five films in the long-running series before pursuing a career in politics.

Johnson shared the revelation in a Facebook post, saying he had enjoyed the experience of working on the acclaimed anime.

He also recalled introducing his work to his young son, who was just one year old at the time and recognised the show's main character, Goku, while watching the episodes with him.

Johnson described the experience as a creative outlet and a unique cultural connection.

According to the online entertainment database IMDb, Johnson is credited as a composer on dozens of episodes produced between 1990 and 2008. He also worked as a voice actor in Berserk anime films.

Beyond his entertainment career, Johnson is an experienced lawyer with academic qualifications in physics and law. He has served as a Texas state senator since 2019.

He secured victory against Republican Mayes Middleton in the race to become Texas's next attorney general, winning support across several border districts and major cities.

Johnson is set to succeed Republican Ken Paxton, who lost his bid for a US Senate seat to Democrat James Talarico, despite receiving public backing from President Donald Trump.
