Motorists are set to see a slight decrease in petrol prices, while diesel prices are expected to drop by more than R1 per litre in the latest fuel price adjustments.

According to the Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources, both grades of petrol will decrease by one cent per litre.

Diesel prices are expected to decline by between R1.09 and R1.13 per litre, depending on the grade.

However, consumers who rely on illuminating paraffin and liquefied petroleum gas (LP Gas) will face significant increases.

The price of illuminating paraffin is expected to rise by R3.66 per litre, while LP Gas will increase by R1.83 per kilogram, and R2.08 per kilogram in the Western Cape.

Department spokesperson Robert Maake attributed the adjustments to higher Brent crude oil prices and increases in international petroleum product prices.

He also cited the weakening of the rand against the US dollar during the period under review, as well as a 48.18 cents per litre increase in the slate levy, which rose from 87.66 cents to R1.3584 per litre in the price structures for petrol and diesel.

Maake further highlighted the short-term fuel price relief measures announced by the Minister of Finance during the Medium-Term Budget Policy Statement.

The measures include a reduction of R3 per litre in the general fuel levy on diesel and R1.50 per litre on petrol, effective from 4 November 2026.
