Two people have been arrested in the Eastern Cape for allegedly impersonating an Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) official and attempting to collect voting material.

According to police, the suspects arrived at Ngcobo Police Station at approximately 4.30am on Monday, 2 November 2026, claiming they had been sent by the presiding officer to collect the voting material.

However, the presiding officer was already at the police station and had not authorised anyone to collect the materials.

The suspects were intercepted before leaving the station, and the voting material was confiscated.

Both have since been arrested and are being processed by police.

Eastern Cape Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Vuyisile Ncata has condemned the incident, warning that any attempts to interfere with the electoral process will not be tolerated.

Ncata said the arrests demonstrate police commitment to protecting the integrity of the elections.

He warned that anyone found impersonating an IEC official would face the full might of the law.
