North West businessman Suliman Carrim will remain in custody despite being granted R100 000 bail in a contempt of court case by the Pretoria Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.
Carrim was granted bail in connection with his alleged failure to appear before the Madlanga Commission after being subpoenaed to testify.
The court imposed several conditions, including that he surrender his travel documents, reside at his verified address in Mahikeng and report regularly to the police.
However, his release remains pending the outcome of a separate case in Musina, Limpopo, where he faces charges of attempted motor vehicle theft, fraud, uttering and money laundering.
During Wednesday’s proceedings, the State requested that the matter be postponed to 8 December to allow for the disclosure of documents.
The prosecutor explained that the case required a different disclosure process, as the relevant dockets had to be handled by a designated office responsible for making copies of the documents.
The State indicated that this process differed from the usual procedure followed in other cases.
