The Department of Home Affairs will temporarily extend its operating hours ahead of next week’s local government elections to help eligible voters access their identity documents.
All Home Affairs offices will operate from 8am to 6pm from 2 to 4 November to facilitate applications for and the collection of identity documents.
Department spokesperson Ndileka Cola says offices will also open earlier and close later on election day, 4 November, operating from 7am until 9pm.
Cola says the extended hours are aimed at ensuring that citizens can access the necessary documents to exercise their democratic right to vote.
The department has urged eligible voters who still need to apply for or collect their identity documents to make use of the extended operating hours.
