Firefighters are investigating a fire at a printing shop on Denis Hurley Street in the Durban CBD after a suspected petrol bomb was allegedly thrown into the premises on Tuesday morning.
No injuries were reported in the incident.
eThekwini Fire Station Divisional Commander Nkulumo Dube says firefighters were dispatched to the scene following reports of a shop fire.
Upon arrival, crews found the printing shop well alight and were forced to gain entry to the premises to extinguish the flames. Smoke was also seen coming from two sections of the building.
Dube says firefighters used hoses to bring the blaze under control.
According to Dube, a security guard reported that someone had allegedly thrown an object believed to be a petrol bomb into the shop.
The owner of the building, which houses several businesses, also confirmed the report, he says.
The fire affected a neighbouring business that repairs mobile phones and sells clothing.
However, the neighbouring shop's sprinkler system activated, limiting the damage to water damage.
An investigation into the cause of the fire is under way.
