Twin brothers Kegomodicoe Lekone and Keabecoe Lekone, both aged 52, have been shot dead inside their Ford Ranger in Bochabela, Bloemfontein.
The two businessmen, who owned Ekhayeni Lounge Bar, were killed on Wednesday morning at premises in Ramatsoele Street.
Free State police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Thabo Covane says Mangaung police received a report of a shooting in progress from radio control 10 111 at about 8.51am.
Patrol vehicles were dispatched and arrived at the scene at approximately 9am.
According to Covane, a witness who was inside a double-storey building on the property reported hearing gunshots from upstairs.
The witness allegedly rushed outside to investigate and saw a man running towards a white Chevrolet Aveo hatchback, which then sped away.
Covane says the witness could not establish whether the man was carrying any object. Police believe there may have been two other occupants inside the vehicle.
The brothers were found inside their charcoal-coloured Ford Ranger near the entrance gate of the premises. Both had sustained gunshot wounds, with Kegomodicoe behind the steering wheel and his twin brother, Keabecoe, in the passenger seat.
ER24 paramedics declared both men dead at the scene.
Police have opened two murder cases at Mangaung Police Station and are searching for the suspects, who allegedly fled in the white Chevrolet Aveo.
Authorities have appealed to anyone with information that could assist in identifying or locating the suspects to contact Colonel Msokoli Bolsick on 082 466 8530.
Information can also be reported at the nearest police station, submitted through the MySAPS application or provided anonymously through the SAPS Crime Stop number on 08600 10111.
Investigations into the double murder are ongoing.
