The Concerned Citizens of South Africa group is calling for a reduction in fuel prices as it prepares to stage pickets in several parts of the country on Monday.
The civil society organisation says rising fuel costs and other increases in the cost of living are placing growing pressure on households.
Group representative Ntokozo Mkhize said higher fuel prices were affecting almost every aspect of daily life, including transport, food costs and getting children to school.
The group is calling on the government to consider the financial pressures facing ordinary South Africans.
Mkhize said demonstrations would take place outside the KwaZulu-Natal Legislature in Pietermaritzburg, Durban City Hall, the Union Buildings in Pretoria and Cape Town City Hall.
He criticised fuel taxes and levies, saying the current economic conditions were making life increasingly difficult for many citizens.
Mkhize said Monday’s picket was the first phase of the campaign, warning that further action could follow.
“This is our first stage. We are just starting. You should expect more. We are going to intensify and reinforce our struggle, our initiative, our campaign,” he said.
The pickets are expected to begin at 9am on Monday.
Meanwhile, Durban Metro Police have confirmed that the planned demonstration in the city will not affect any traffic routes.
