Former ANC North West treasurer Suliman Carrim has been arrested at OR Tambo International Airport for failing to appear before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry.
The 49-year-old businessman was arrested by the Commission’s Recommendations Task Team (CRTT) on Thursday evening, shortly before he was due to board a flight to the United Arab Emirates.
Carrim has been implicated in alleged corruption and questionable dealings involving controversial businessman Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala.
He has reportedly resisted appearing before the commission, prompting authorities to open a case against him.
Carrim is expected to appear in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on Friday.
