The four-month-old baby allegedly killed by a self-proclaimed pastor has been laid to rest.

Caiphus Mkhawane and his two wives, Ntsako Mathebula and Amanda Mnguni, appeared in the Atteridgeville Magistrate’s Court on Monday in connection with the infant’s death.

The trio face charges linked to the baby’s killing, while Mkhawane is also accused of raping the infant’s mother.

The baby’s body was discovered in a shallow grave near the Hennops River last week.

According to reports, the mother had accompanied Mkhawane and one of his wives to the river for a ritual, during which she was allegedly raped and tied up.

She reportedly managed to escape and seek help.

Mkhawane was later arrested in Diepsloot.

Investigations into the case are continuing.
