Human skeletal remains have been discovered on a steep embankment along Lenham Drive in Phoenix, north of Durban.

Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) says its Phoenix Operations Centre received a report from a man herding cattle who came across the remains on Tuesday, October 13.

Reaction officers were dispatched to the scene and arrived at approximately 12:26. They proceeded down the embankment, where they found a human skull and several bones among the grass.

A local resident alleged that this was the third discovery of human remains in the area this year.

The resident also claimed that the grass on the embankment had previously been set alight and that drug users frequently visited the location.

The site is reportedly visible from homes situated on the opposite embankment.

It remains unclear how long the remains had been at the scene or the circumstances surrounding the person’s death.
