A 36-year-old man described as a pastor, who is accused of murdering a four-month-old baby and raping the infant’s mother, is expected to appear in the Atteridgeville Magistrate’s Court on Monday alongside his two wives.
The man was arrested over the weekend after police found him hiding in a back room at an informal settlement in Diepsloot.
According to police, the man and his two wives accompanied a 43-year-old woman and her baby to the Hennops River in Pretoria last week for an alleged ritual.
The man allegedly proceeded with the woman, leaving the infant in the care of his wives.
Police believe the woman was raped before managing to escape.
The baby’s body was later discovered in a shallow grave near the river.
The two women were arrested first, with one of them allegedly leading police to the infant’s body.
The three suspects are expected to face court proceedings as investigations into the alleged crimes continue.
