The death toll from the KwaMakhutha mass shooting in KwaZulu-Natal has risen to 12 after one of the victims who was hospitalised died from their injuries.
The shooting took place at around 11pm on Tuesday when armed men reportedly stormed a home in the Durban township of KwaMakhutha and opened fire on a group of people inside.
Ten victims were killed at the scene, while another died while being transported to hospital.
A pregnant woman was among those killed.
Three other victims were taken to hospital for treatment. Police have now confirmed that one of them has succumbed to their injuries, bringing the death toll to 12.
The attackers also allegedly set fire to a vehicle belonging to one of the victims before fleeing the scene.
KwaZulu-Natal police said preliminary investigations had revealed that some of the victims were known to Crime Intelligence in connection with suspected illegal activities.
Police have not disclosed further details about the alleged activities.
The motive for the attack has not yet been established. However, investigators have not ruled out the possibility that the shooting may be linked to a feud between rival groups.
Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the attack and are searching for those responsible.
