A high-ranking South African Police Service official is expected to appear in the Randburg Magistrates’ Court in Johannesburg on Tuesday following his arrest on sexual offence charges.
The Lieutenant-General was arrested on Monday by the Commissions Recommendations Task Team.
He is accused of sexually grooming a 16-year-old girl between July and August this year.
The officer is also facing allegations that he raped an 18-year-old woman at a hotel in Sandton in May 2026.
National police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe says Acting National Commissioner Lieutenant-General Puleng Dimpane has strongly condemned the alleged conduct, particularly amid the country’s ongoing efforts to combat gender-based violence and femicide.
Mathe says police officers have a heightened responsibility to protect women and children from violence, abuse and exploitation.
She says members of the SAPS are entrusted with protecting vulnerable people and cannot themselves be implicated in conduct that undermines that responsibility.
The accused is expected to appear in court on Tuesday, where the charges against him are expected to be addressed.
