At least 21 people have died following a serious collision on the N1 between Prince Albert and Leeu-Gamka in the Western Cape.
The crash occurred at around 11.30pm on Sunday and involved two minibus taxis and a station wagon.
The severity of the collision has resulted in the complete closure of the N1 in both directions.
Motorists have been urged to avoid the affected section of the highway and use alternative routes while emergency and traffic officials remain at the scene.
Police say motorists can use Prince Albert Road Station before joining the R407 towards the N12. From there, they can continue along the N12 towards Beaufort West.
Authorities are warning that significant delays are expected in the area and have called on motorists to exercise extreme caution.
Emergency personnel and traffic officials are continuing to work at the scene, with motorists urged to follow instructions and stay away from the affected stretch of road where possible.
