Isuzu Motors South Africa has recalled 2,582 RG19 bakkies over concerns that a potentially loose brake pedal pivot pin could affect the vehicle’s braking system.
The National Consumer Commission (NCC) announced the recall on Tuesday, saying the affected vehicles were made available between 11 May and 3 July this year.
NCC spokesperson Phetho Ntaba said some of the affected vehicles were also exported to Botswana, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, eSwatini, Uganda and Zambia.
According to Isuzu, the brake pedal pivot pin may become loose, potentially making it difficult for drivers to fully depress the brake pedal.
The NCC has urged owners of affected vehicles to take them to their nearest authorised Isuzu dealership for inspection.
“Consumers should present their vehicles to the nearest Isuzu Dealership for an inspection and replacement of the defective component,” Ntaba said.
She confirmed that all remedial work linked to the recall would be carried out free of charge.
Acting NCC Commissioner Hardin Ratshisusu stressed the importance of addressing the issue without delay, given the critical role of a vehicle’s braking system.
“A vehicle’s braking system is a critical safety component of a vehicle,” Ratshisusu said.
He urged owners and users of the affected bakkies to contact their preferred authorised Isuzu dealership as soon as possible to have the vehicles inspected and, where necessary, repaired.
Motorists who own an affected Isuzu RG19 are advised not to delay having the potential fault checked to ensure their vehicles remain safe to operate.
