The 53-year-old man accused of fatally stabbing a 20-year-old man in Refilwe last week is expected to make his second appearance in the Cullinan Magistrate’s Court outside Pretoria on Tuesday.
The accused allegedly stabbed Tshepang Nyathi during Spring Day celebrations last Tuesday.
The incident occurred as a group of young people gathered to celebrate Spring Day by splashing each other with water.
However, the festivities reportedly turned violent after some of the youths allegedly began splashing water on bystanders and people passing through the area.
The 53-year-old suspect was reportedly among those affected.
It is alleged that he retaliated by stabbing Nyathi in the chest, striking him in the heart.
Nyathi was rushed to a local clinic but died minutes later.
The fatal stabbing has sparked strong reactions within the Refilwe community, with residents expressing differing views about the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The case has also attracted wider national attention, raising concerns about violence during public celebrations and the circumstances that led to the deadly confrontation.
The accused remains before the court as the investigation into Nyathi’s death continues.
