Eastern Cape police have arrested three more suspects in connection with the murder of former two-division boxing world champion Zolani Tete, bringing the total number of people in custody to four.
The latest arrests were made in Mdantsane and KuGompo City over the weekend. Another person who had been taken in for questioning has since been released.
Tete, 38, was shot and killed outside his home in Mdantsane on Friday.
Police spokesperson Nobuntu Gantana said one of the suspects, a 22-year-old man arrested on 22 August, has been formally charged with murder and attempted murder.
He is expected to appear before the Mdantsane Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 24 August 2026.
The attempted murder charge relates to a 27-year-old woman who was travelling with Tete and was wounded during the attack. She remains in hospital.
The other three suspects are expected to appear in court soon.
Police say investigations are continuing and further arrests are anticipated.
