Zimbabwean authorities have released the names of 44 of the 46 people confirmed to have died after a passenger ferry capsized on Lake Kariba on Tuesday afternoon.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police released the first batch of victims as recovery and identification efforts continue.
Of the 44 victims whose names have been made public, at least 18 were children under the age of 10, highlighting the devastating impact of the disaster.
Authorities have yet to determine the exact number of passengers who were aboard the ferry when it overturned.
Initial reports suggested that approximately 120 people were travelling on the vessel. However, officials fear the actual number of passengers could have been significantly higher.
Seventy-seven people have so far been rescued following the incident.
Police said search, recovery and identification operations remain ongoing as teams work to locate and identify the remaining victims.
The circumstances surrounding the ferry’s capsizing are also being investigated as authorities continue efforts to establish what led to the tragedy.
