A prominent KwaZulu-Natal businessman has been arrested on charges of human trafficking and kidnapping.
The businessman, whose name has featured during proceedings at the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry and before Parliament's Ad Hoc Committee, was arrested at his home in Umhlanga on Tuesday.
The arrest was carried out during an operation led by the Hawks in KwaZulu-Natal.
Authorities have not yet provided further details about the allegations against the businessman or the circumstances surrounding his arrest.
He is expected to appear in court on Wednesday morning, where the charges against him are expected to be formally addressed.
The arrest comes as the Madlanga Commission and Parliament's Ad Hoc Committee continue examining allegations relating to serious organised crime and other matters involving law enforcement in South Africa.
More details are expected to emerge during the court proceedings.
