New Zealand continued their preparations for the Rugby Championship with a commanding 54-0 victory over the Sharks at Kings Park in Durban on Tuesday.
Wing Fehi Fineanganofo scored twice as the All Blacks ran in eight tries to dominate the second match of their South African tour.
The Sharks, severely weakened by Springbok call-ups and injuries, managed to stay competitive during the opening half and went into the break trailing 14-0.
However, New Zealand turned up the pressure after half-time, scoring six more tries in difficult cold and wet conditions in front of a small crowd.
Fineanganofo crossed once in each half, while the other tries came from full-back Damian McKenzie, winger Caleb Clarke, centre Jordie Barrett, scrum-half Kyle Preston, replacement flanker Timoci Tavatavanawai and lock Sam Darry.
Ruben Love, expected to start at fly-half in New Zealand's opening Test against South Africa in Johannesburg on August 22, converted seven of his eight attempts, including several difficult kicks.
First-time All Blacks captain Luke Jacobsen praised his side's performance, particularly their improvement at scrum time and in the maul.
“It was an awesome game to be part of. We broke them down pretty well in the first half and then reaped the fruits in the second half,” Jacobsen said.
Sharks captain and No. 8 Nick Hatton said his team was disappointed with the way the second half unfolded but acknowledged the quality of the All Blacks' performance.
“It was an awesome opportunity to play against the All Blacks, but we are pretty disappointed with how the second half unfolded,” Hatton said.
“Credit to the All Blacks, that was a proper performance. We knew they wanted to play with a lot of tempo. Give them quick ball and they are deadly.”
Former All Blacks centre Ma'a Nonu, a two-time Rugby World Cup winner, came off the bench for the Sharks in the second half but could not prevent New Zealand from taking control.
The 44-year-old, who joined the Durban franchise as a player mentor last month, also delivered his own response to the All Blacks' traditional haka before kick-off.
New Zealand's victory was, however, overshadowed by an injury to McKenzie, who was forced off before half-time with a knee problem.
The All Blacks have already lost hooker George Bell and centre Billy Proctor from their original 44-man squad. Bell suffered a calf injury during training before the opening 38-21 win over the Stormers, while Proctor sustained a fractured shoulder blade during that match.
New Zealand have not yet named a replacement for Proctor.
The All Blacks now turn their attention to a potentially tougher encounter against the Bulls in Pretoria on Saturday as they continue their preparations for the upcoming Test series against South Africa.
