Two Chinese nationals have been arrested in Booysens, Johannesburg, after allegedly being found in possession of stolen copper sheets valued at approximately R16 million.
The suspects, both aged 43, were arrested on Thursday during an intelligence-driven operation by the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department’s (JMPD) Tactical Response Unit.
According to the JMPD, officers received information about stolen copper sheets linked to a theft case being investigated by Maydon Wharf SAPS in Durban.
The information led officers to a truck allegedly transporting the stolen copper to a warehouse at the corner of Treu and Vlak streets in Booysens.
“The information led the officers to the truck transporting the stolen copper at a warehouse on the corner of Treu and Vlak streets in Booysens,” the JMPD said in a statement.
The copper sheets are estimated to be worth R16 million.
The two suspects remain in police custody and are expected to appear in court soon.
Police have not yet disclosed the charges the suspects will face.
