The case against alleged political fixer Brown Mogotsi has been postponed for the State to provide full disclosure of the case docket.
Mogotsi made a brief appearance in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court on Monday, with the matter postponed to 20 August.
The court also dismissed an application by the defence seeking the names and addresses of certain witnesses, with the State raising concerns about their safety.
Mogotsi is accused of threatening a state witness. Prosecutors allege that his wife visited the witness after the person’s address was disclosed during court proceedings.
State Advocate Thami Mpekana told the court that the State wants the identities and personal details of its witnesses to remain confidential in the interests of justice and their safety.
Mogotsi is accused of staging an assassination attempt against himself in Vosloorus in November 2025.
He faces several Schedule 5 charges, including perjury, defeating the ends of justice, unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition, discharging a firearm in public and attempting to bribe a police officer involved in the investigation.
Ballistic reports have allegedly linked the firearm used in the incident to other serious crimes, including murder.
However, the firearm allegedly used in the shooting has not yet been recovered.
The matter is expected to return to court on 20 August, when further proceedings are expected to take place.
