The South African Police Service (SAPS) has announced the appointment of Lieutenant General Sizakhele William Dyantyi as the new Provincial Commissioner of the Western Cape, with effect from 1 August 2026.
Dyantyi brings more than three decades of policing experience to the position, having served for 34 years in a variety of operational and leadership roles across the Eastern and Western Cape. His career includes experience at station, district and provincial level.
Acting National Commissioner Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane said the appointment comes at a crucial time as the province continues to face complex crime challenges.
Dimpane said Dyantyi's leadership will be instrumental in strengthening crime-fighting efforts, restoring public confidence in the police and advancing the SAPS Reset Agenda.
Speaking after his appointment, Dyantyi said improving the operational readiness of police officers would be one of his top priorities. He also highlighted the increased use of technology as a key strategy in combating crime across the province.
Dyantyi expressed confidence in the capability and commitment of Western Cape police officers, saying he believes they have the skills and dedication needed to protect communities and ensure residents feel safe.
