Firefighters are battling a fire that broke out at the Imizamo Yethu informal settlement in Hout Bay, Cape Town, on Wednesday morning.
Fire and Rescue Services spokesperson Jermaine Carelse said emergency crews were dispatched to the scene after receiving reports of several informal structures on fire.
Following an initial assessment, the first responding officer requested additional firefighting resources, including the Incident Management Team (IMT) Type 4, to assist in containing the blaze.
Carelse said multiple firefighting crews are currently on site, working to prevent the fire from spreading further and to minimise damage to surrounding structures.
To improve firefighting operations, the affected area has been divided into two sections, allowing teams to coordinate their response more effectively.
Authorities said the situation remains dynamic, with further details expected to be released once more information has been confirmed.
