Durban Metro Police, assisted by several law enforcement agencies, conducted an early morning operation at a suspected hijacked building in Durban's central business district on Monday as part of an ongoing crackdown on crime and illegal occupations.
The property, located near the Warwick Triangle, is believed to be a hotspot for criminal activity, including the alleged sale and distribution of drugs.
During the operation, officers discovered numerous makeshift structures inside the building. Authorities estimate that around 100 people are living on the premises, while several illegal taverns are also believed to be operating from the property.
Police said no arrests had been made at the time of the operation, but several individuals had been taken in for questioning as investigations continue.
The raid forms part of broader efforts by law enforcement agencies to dismantle criminal networks, address illegal occupations and restore law and order in Durban's CBD.
