Ford has recalled a number of its 2026 Transit vehicles sold in Southern Africa after identifying a transmission defect that could result in a sudden loss of power.
The National Consumer Commission (NCC) announced that the recall affects certain 2026 Ford Transit, Transit Custom and Tourneo Custom models sold between October 2025 and June 2026.
According to the NCC, the affected vehicles may develop a transmission fault that causes the loss of first gear or reverse, creating a potential safety risk for motorists.
The commission warned that when an affected vehicle is shifted into drive, it may fail to move forward because first gear is unavailable. In some cases, the transmission may also lose the ability to engage reverse gear.
The recall applies to vehicles sold in South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Lesotho and Eswatini.
Owners of affected vehicles are being urged to contact or visit their nearest authorised Ford dealership, where the vehicles will be inspected and repaired at no cost.
The NCC encouraged motorists to respond to the recall promptly to ensure the safety and reliability of their vehicles.
