Alleged cartel member and attempted murder accused Vusimuzi "Cat" Matlala is expected to appear before the Madlanga Commission next week as it continues investigating allegations of criminal infiltration within South Africa's law enforcement agencies.

Matlala has emerged as a central figure in the Commission's proceedings amid allegations of corruption and organised criminal activity.

His legal representative is expected to confirm the date of his appearance before the Commission in the coming days.

The development comes after the Pretoria Specialised Commercial Crimes Court on Wednesday rejected a plea and sentencing agreement reached between the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) and Matlala's legal team.

The agreement related to the R228 million Medicare24 tender fraud case involving the Tshwane District of the South African Police Service (SAPS).

Matlala pleaded guilty under the agreement, which proposed an eight-year direct prison sentence.

However, the court found the proposed sentence to be too lenient and instead indicated that a 12-year term of direct imprisonment would be more appropriate.

Matlala has not yet agreed to the court's proposed sentence, and the matter remains before the court pending further proceedings.

His anticipated appearance before the Madlanga Commission is expected to draw significant attention, given his alleged links to corruption and the Commission's ongoing investigation into criminal influence within state institutions.
