Four men were killed and two others critically injured in a suspected taxi-related shooting in Nyanga on the Cape Flats on Wednesday morning.
The victims came under gunfire in an attack that has once again highlighted ongoing violence linked to the taxi industry in parts of the Western Cape.
Emergency services responded to the scene, where four men were declared dead. Two surviving victims sustained serious injuries and were rushed to hospital, where they remain in critical condition.
Police have launched a murder and attempted murder investigation, with no arrests made at this stage.
Western Cape police spokesperson Colonel André Traut said detectives from the Provincial Serious and Violent Crime (SVC) Taxi Unit have been assigned to the case and are actively pursuing leads.
"Provincial detectives attached to the Provincial SVC Taxi Unit are pursuing all available leads to identify and apprehend those responsible, while forensic experts are processing the crime scene and gathering evidence as part of the ongoing investigation," Traut said.
He added that additional police resources have been deployed to the area to strengthen security and maintain stability following the attack.
"The motive for the attack forms part of the police investigation," Traut said.
Forensic specialists continue to examine the crime scene and collect evidence as investigators work to establish the circumstances surrounding the shooting and identify those responsible.
Authorities have appealed to anyone with information that could assist the investigation to come forward and contact police.
