The National Consumer Commission (NCC) has announced the recall of 920 Jeep Grand Cherokee WL vehicles sold in South Africa between 2021 and 2023 due to a potential safety defect.
According to the commission, the recall relates to a faulty upper control arm pinch bolt that could break, potentially causing drivers to lose control of the vehicle and increasing the risk of a crash.
NCC spokesperson Phetho Ntaba urged owners of affected vehicles to contact authorised Jeep dealerships immediately for inspections and repairs or replacements.
“We urge owners of affected vehicles to immediately contact their authorised Jeep dealerships for inspections and necessary repair or replacement,” Ntaba said.
“Remember, this will be carried out at no cost to you as a consumer.”
The announcement follows a recent Bridgestone tyre recall involving certain Ford and Volkswagen models fitted with Bridgestone Duravis R660 Eco tyres.
The recall affects 215/65R16C 109/107T tyres fitted to Ford Transit Custom and Tourneo Custom vehicles manufactured between 2024 and 2025, as well as certain Volkswagen vehicles sold between 22 October 2023 and 8 November 2025.
According to the manufacturer, the tyres may be more susceptible to cuts and partial penetrations in rough or wet driving conditions, which could allow moisture to enter the tyre structure and lead to corrosion of the tyre belt over time.
Ntaba warned that affected motorists could notice tyre bulges, tread deformation or cuts, which may impact vehicle handling, braking and acceleration, increasing the likelihood of an accident.
The NCC has advised all affected vehicle owners to take their vehicles to authorised dealerships for inspection and corrective action.
