A protest march in the Pinetown remained peaceful on Wednesday as demonstrators moved toward the Pinetown Taxi Rank under the watch of law enforcement and private security personnel.

Members of the South African Police Service, Metro Police and Marshall Security monitored the march, with no incidents reported during the demonstration. Organisers estimated that between 600 and 700 people took part in the protest.

The march was sparked by concerns over tariff increases implemented by the eThekwini Municipality, particularly relating to water, electricity and sanitation services. Protesters also voiced concerns over undocumented foreign nationals.

Marshall Security spokesperson Andreas Matthios was on the scene monitoring developments alongside other security and law enforcement officials as the demonstration continued.
