The South African Social Security Agency (South African Social Security Agency) says the introduction of biometric technology is already helping to reduce long queues at its offices as part of a nationwide modernisation drive.

The rollout comes after widespread complaints from grant recipients, particularly elderly beneficiaries, who have endured long waiting times in harsh weather conditions.

SASSA spokesperson Paseka Letsatsi has urged the public to remain patient as the system is gradually implemented across the country.

He said the queue management system is not limited to specific offices such as Bellville, but forms part of a broader national rollout.

“The queue management system is not necessarily for the Bellville office of SASSA only, but it is a process that we are rolling out across the whole country,” Letsatsi said.

He explained that the system is designed to streamline service delivery by assigning clients queue numbers and providing clearer indications of when they will be assisted.

“It makes life easier because when your time comes, you are called with your number in hand, and it helps deal with long queues,” he said.

SASSA says the biometric system is intended to improve efficiency, reduce congestion at service points, and enhance the overall experience for grant beneficiaries.
