The Democratic Alliance (DA) has appointed Glynnis Breytenbach as its new chief whip in the National Assembly.

In a statement, DA Parliamentary Leader George Michalakis said Breytenbach brings extensive experience to the role, including 12 years in Parliament and decades of service as a senior state prosecutor.

“She will be the custodian of Parliament’s rules and procedures on behalf of the DA. She will also, alongside myself, serve as one of the party’s chief negotiators within the GNU in Parliament,” the statement read.

Michalakis previously held the position of chief whip from June 2024 until his election as DA parliamentary leader in April this year.

Breytenbach has served in Parliament throughout her tenure as the DA’s spokesperson on justice, where she has been closely involved in legal and oversight matters.
