Protesters campaigning against illegal immigration say they will continue their demonstrations despite what they describe as growing intimidation and threats.
Several activists claim they have been targeted, with some reporting threats and alleged arson attacks on their homes.
Among those affected is activist Ngizwe Mchunu, whose home was reportedly set alight over the weekend. Supporters believe the incident may be linked to his outspoken position on undocumented migration.
Other activists also marched in Mthatha, expressing frustration over illegal immigration and calling for stricter enforcement of immigration laws. Some demonstrators are demanding the mass deportation of undocumented foreign nationals, saying they are now facing what they believe is retaliation for their stance.
The group submitted a memorandum to the King Sabata Dalindyebo Local Municipality, raising concerns about undocumented migrants and calling for tighter regulation of foreign-owned businesses operating in local communities.
Protest leaders have vowed to continue their campaign and say further demonstrations are planned in the Eastern Cape on Wednesday.
They insist their demands will continue until government takes decisive action on immigration enforcement and related community concerns.
