The Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) says severe weather conditions have disrupted flight operations at Cape Town International Airport and George Airport.
According to ACSA, gale-force winds and heavy rainfall have resulted in delays, diversions and flight cancellations affecting both airports.
ACSA spokesperson Ofentse Dijoe said the airports remain operational despite the adverse conditions.
“Airport operations continue to be closely monitored, and alternative airports are accommodating diverted flights where required. Passengers are encouraged to consult the ACSA Mobile App or their respective airlines for the latest flight information,” Dijoe said.
The latest weather system marks the second cold front to hit the Western Cape in recent days, bringing widespread rain and damaging winds across the province.
Meanwhile, humanitarian organisation Gift of the Givers says it is assisting approximately 6,000 residents affected by the storm in Cape Town and surrounding areas.
Gift of the Givers project manager Ali Sablay said assessment teams have been deployed to the hardest-hit communities since early Tuesday morning.
“Our teams have been on the ground from 6am conducting assessments. We are currently at the Lwandle hostels, where the devastation has affected not only informal structures but also residential flats, with roofs blown off,” Sablay said.
Emergency and disaster response teams remain on high alert as severe weather conditions continue across parts of the province.
