The National Department of Health says laboratory test results are still pending for one of four people being monitored in Cape Town following possible exposure to hantavirus.
Department spokesperson Foster Mohale confirmed that one individual developed symptoms associated with the virus and has since undergone laboratory testing.
Mohale said health authorities are continuing to closely monitor the situation as contact tracing efforts intensify.
He explained that officials are tracing and monitoring all passengers who travelled on the flight between Saint Helena and OR Tambo International Airport alongside individuals who later tested positive for the virus.
According to the department, four people in the Western Cape have so far been identified for monitoring as part of the tracing process.
Authorities say investigations and testing are ongoing as they work to contain any potential spread linked to the outbreak.
