Police have confirmed that Fadiel Adams, leader of the National Coloured Congress and a Member of Parliament, is a wanted man and has been instructed to hand himself over to the nearest police station.
The South African Police Service (SAPS) Political Killings Task Team says it has secured a warrant of arrest for Adams in connection with allegations of fraud and defeating the ends of justice.
According to police, the charges relate to the alleged interference in investigations into the murder of former ANC Youth League secretary-general Sindiso Magaqa.
National police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe said the alleged interference involved a convicted hitman at a critical stage of the case.
“SAPS has a J50 warrant of arrest for Mr Adams. The warrant relates to serious allegations that he interfered with ongoing investigations into the matter of the late ANC Youth League leader, Mr Sindiso Magaqa,” Mathe said.
She added that arrangements had been made with Adams’ legal representative for him to hand himself over at Cape Town Central Police Station on Monday. However, he had not complied at the time of the statement.
“SAPS urges Mr Adams to cooperate with law enforcement and hand himself over at his nearest police station without delay,” Mathe said.
Police have not indicated when Adams is expected to appear in court.
