Police in the Northern Cape are investigating two counts of murder and one of attempted murder following a deadly shooting incident in Kimberley.
It is alleged that a 54-year-old man shot and killed his wife and son, and injured another woman during an argument at a residence in the area.
According to police, the suspect is currently under guard in hospital after sustaining a gunshot wound, believed to be self-inflicted, during an apparent suicide attempt following the incident.
Police spokesperson Cherelle Ehlers said the man allegedly fired multiple shots inside the home, killing his wife and son. A 36-year-old woman was also wounded and transported to hospital for medical treatment.
“He then reportedly fled to the home of a friend, where he allegedly sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was transported to hospital, where he was placed under arrest and is currently under police guard,” Ehlers said.
