Acting North West police commissioner Ryno Naidoo has deployed a specialised task team to investigate a double murder and business robbery in Mahikeng.
A businessman and his wife were shot and killed during the incident on Friday. According to police, the woman died at the scene, while her husband later succumbed to his injuries in hospital.
Police spokesperson Kelebogile Morake said the couple had rushed from their nearby home after receiving information that their son was being robbed at their business premises.
“Upon arrival at the premises, which are located a short distance from their residence, they encountered the suspects at the entrance,” Morake said.
She added that six unidentified suspects, wearing masks and armed with firearms, had already entered the property.
“According to one of the victims, the suspects forced those inside to lie on the floor, threatened and assaulted them, and robbed them of several cellphones, an undisclosed amount of cash, a laptop, and the keys to a Ford Ranger,” she said.
The vehicle was later used by the suspects to flee the scene.
Police investigations are ongoing, with authorities working to trace the suspects involved in the attack.
