A 28-year-old woman has been sentenced to life imprisonment by a KwaZulu-Natal court for the repeated rape of her eight-year-old brother.

The Madadeni resident received the life term for rape, along with an additional five-year sentence for exposing the child to pornographic material. The court heard that the abuse took place between 2022 and 2024. The accused lived in the same household as the minor and committed the assaults during times when they were left home alone.

Natasha Ramkisson-Kara, spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) in KwaZulu-Natal, welcomed the heavy sentence, noting that the woman’s guilty plea did not shield her from the full might of the law.

"The National Prosecuting Authority welcomes the sentence... The fight against sexual violence, particularly against children, remains a top priority," Ramkisson-Kara stated.

She further highlighted the role of Thuthuzela Care Centres in providing critical, comprehensive support to victims of sexual offences across the province. The NPA emphasized that this sentence serves as a stern warning regarding the protection of vulnerable children within domestic environments.
