ActionSA Member of Parliament Dereleen James has laid criminal charges against Social Development Minister Sisi Tolashe, accusing her of misleading Parliament regarding the origin of two luxury vehicles linked to the ANC Women’s League.
The dispute centres on two BAIC Beijing X55 SUVs, which were reportedly described as donations to the league. However, the claim has since come under scrutiny from senior figures within the ANC.
The vehicles, valued at nearly R1 million, are alleged to have never been properly declared. ActionSA has raised concerns that they may have been undisclosed gifts from foreign officials, potentially in breach of parliamentary and ethical rules.
James has confirmed that she has opened a corruption case, filed a complaint with the Public Protector, and referred the matter to Parliament’s Ethics Committee for further investigation.
She has also called on President Cyril Ramaphosa to take swift action while the matter is being probed.
The allegations are now expected to undergo formal scrutiny through both legal and parliamentary processes.
