A crash involving two trucks on the M7 near the Belville off-ramp in the Malvern area west of Durban has left one person dead and another injured.

Emergency services say the incident occurred when one truck reportedly collided with the rear of another vehicle that had broken down on the highway.

An occupant in the back of one of the trucks was declared dead at the scene, while the truck driver sustained injuries and was treated by paramedics.

The crash led to the closure of the Durban-bound M7 for several hours as emergency teams worked to clear the wreckage and manage the scene.

Garrith Jamieson urged motorists to avoid the affected stretch of road, warning of delays and secondary collisions.

“At this stage I can confirm one person has suffered fatal injuries and has been declared deceased on scene,” Jamieson said. “There have been secondary collisions as well, and motorists are advised to avoid the entire M7 Durban-bound as it is currently closed.”

Authorities have not yet confirmed when the highway will fully reopen, citing ongoing cleanup operations and investigations at the scene.
