The contract of KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi is set to be renewed for another term, according to National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola.

Mkhwanazi’s current contract was due to expire at the end of March, but Masemola confirmed that processes to extend his tenure are underway.

“We are in the process of finalising those details. So yes, he will still be Provincial Commissioner of KZN,” Masemola said.

He added that there is a strong working relationship between leadership and that the renewal has the backing of the provincial government.

“We have got a good work relationship and the Premier agreed to the renewal of the contract. So, we are just working on modalities,” he said.

KwaZulu-Natal Premier Thamsanqa Ntuli had earlier this year formally endorsed the extension of Mkhwanazi’s contract.

Further details regarding the duration and terms of the renewed contract are expected to be announced once finalised.
