Three people were injured after a fully loaded truck overturned on the M13 in Durban, causing major traffic disruptions on Fields Hill.
Emergency responders said the truck overturned and came to rest on its side along the busy route heading toward the city, scattering its load across the roadway. Images circulating on social media showed debris spread across multiple lanes.
According to Garrith Jamieson, spokesperson for ALS Paramedics, three occupants of the truck sustained injuries in the crash. The driver was found trapped inside the wreckage.
The eThekwini Fire Department was dispatched to the scene, where firefighters used heavy rescue equipment to extricate the driver.
“While the patient was being cut free, medics worked to stabilise him inside the vehicle,” Jamieson said.
Once the driver was freed, all three injured occupants were treated and stabilised at the scene before being transported to a nearby hospital for further medical care.
The cause of the crash has not yet been determined.
Authorities have closed the M13 heading toward Durban after Pioneer Road, and motorists have been advised to use alternative routes while emergency teams clear the scene.
