The case against Bellarmine Chatunga Mugabe, son of late former Robert Mugabe, and his co-accused, Tobias Matonhodze Mugabe, has been postponed to 3 March to allow for a formal bail application.

The pair appeared briefly in the Alexandra Magistrates Court on Monday morning, where they were informed of the charges against them.

They face charges of attempted murder and defeating the ends of justice following a shooting incident at a residence in Hyde Park, north of Johannesburg.

The two were arrested last week after a 23-year-old gardener was shot and wounded at the property. The victim survived the incident and is recovering.

Police spokesperson Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi said investigators have yet to recover the firearm allegedly used in the attack.

“Indeed, the firearm that was used in the commission of the crime has not been found,” she said.

The matter is expected to return to court next month as the accused prepare to apply for bail.
