The son of late former Robert Mugabe is expected to appear in the Alexandra Magistrates Court on Monday morning following his arrest in connection with a shooting incident at a private residence in northern Johannesburg.

Bellarmine “Chatunga” Bellarmine Chatunga Mugabe and a second suspect were taken into custody last week after a 23-year-old gardener was allegedly shot at Mugabe’s home in Hyde Park.

The victim sustained two gunshot wounds and remains in critical condition in hospital.

The pair are facing charges of attempted murder and have been held at the Bramley Police Station since their arrest.

Police have confirmed that the firearm believed to have been used in the shooting has not yet been recovered, complicating the investigation.

Security strategist Andy Mashaile suggested the possibility that the crime scene may have been deliberately interfered with. He said the removal of the weapon could indicate intentional contamination aimed at obstructing the investigation.

“Someone on the inside removed the firearm to ensure the crime scene is contaminated. This is intentional contamination of the crime scene to mess up the evidence so that the individual cannot be arrested by police. This means that there is intentional defeating the ends of justice,” Mashaile said.

Authorities are continuing their investigation as the suspects prepare to make their first court appearance.
