KwaZulu-Natal Hawks head Major-General Lesetja Senona has denied any prior knowledge of alleged criminal activities linked to notorious underworld figure Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala.
Speaking before the Madlanga Commission, Senona said he first met Matlala around 2019 and was unaware at the time that Matlala was under investigation. He added that he only became aware of the alleged criminal conduct after Matlala’s arrest on attempted murder charges.
The Madlanga Commission is currently investigating claims of criminal infiltration, corruption, and political interference within South Africa’s law enforcement agencies and the justice system.
