Western Cape police have uncovered an illegal alcohol manufacturing operation while conducting a search for unlicensed firearms in Kraaifontein.
The discovery was made on Tuesday at a property on Antilope Street in the Uitzicht area. Police said officers were following up on information related to illegal firearms when they came across a fully operational brewery inside the premises.
Two Congolese nationals, aged 23 and 24, were found at the scene. During the search, police uncovered large quantities of alcohol along with equipment used in the illicit manufacturing process.
The unlicensed firearm that officers were initially searching for was not immediately mentioned, but police confirmed that the focus of the investigation shifted after the illegal brewery was discovered.
The two men were arrested on charges of illegal manufacturing of alcohol and are expected to appear in the Bellville Magistrate’s Court once formally charged.
