The eThekwini Municipality has assured residents that the city’s overall water supply remains stable, despite intermittent outages affecting some areas.
In a statement, the municipality said parts of the southern region are experiencing disruptions due to ongoing tie-in work on the Southern Aqueduct, as well as occasional bursts on the existing pipeline. While the outer western areas continue to receive a stable supply, other sections of the system are still facing erratic water delivery.
The update follows the shutdown of the 53 Pipeline for repairs after a burst. Despite this, many communities in the northern parts of the city have reported a steady water supply.
The municipality noted improvements in Ntuzuma and surrounding areas after the successful re-commissioning of the Ntuzuma 2 Pump Station. However, some communities dependent on the station remain affected due to continued vandalism of pressure-reducing valves.
eThekwini also highlighted that areas such as Trenance Park experience frequent supply interruptions, largely as a result of power outages and increased seasonal water demand.
The city acknowledged that certain communities remain without piped water because of limited formal infrastructure and rapid, uncontrolled population growth. To mitigate the impact, water tankers are being deployed to affected areas.
The municipality has committed to intensified monitoring of the water system to ensure more consistent and reliable water delivery across the city.
